our appetite

I feel the most alive when I am creating.
The merging of aesthetic and function in fashion,
keeps drawing me back to it as a core medium.
But a part of me, a  b i g  part,
wants to run away from the fashion industry,
from any creation that extracts
so much from our world.

Fashion serves and condones
that which I actively reject:
constant consumption and disposal,
myopically deriving value from image and optics,
weaponising accessibility for exclusion and exclusivity.

It is easier to do good work
in almost any other industry.
But I am convicted,
that fertile ground always emerges
in the conflict,
in the duality.

This series is an  e x e r c i s e ,
in working with natural materials:
that degrade, decay, evolve over time,
that have a shelf life (like our satisfaction),
that decide how long they want to be alive for.

____

_____

______

This is my attempt
to navigate the tumultuous reverence I have
for fashion and creation.
This is my attempt,
to explore the ways in which I can create and
care for our natural world.

In retrospect, it was a cursory attempt.
